On Wednesday evening we closed by noting how the Bible is very dogmatic about a literal hell, over one hundred-sixty-two texts in the New Testament alone are given, Over seventy were uttered by the Lord.
The Doctrine of Purgatory, established by Pope Gregory I in the year 593 and then as a dogma by the Council of Florence in 1439, a dogma is a dogmatic doctrine that must be believed in or you were sinning against God.
And so as a part of the divine descriptions of Hell there is what is known as Hell being a place of fire and brimstone, REV 19:20.
Hell is a place of burning wind constantly, PSA 11:6.
Another divine description of hell is that it is a place outer darkness where there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
MAT 25:30 “And cast out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
In MAT 25:46 Jesus says, “And they will go away into Eternal Punishment (HELL),”
In MAR 9:43-48, it is called a place of UNQUENCHABLE FIRE, and a place where the MAGGOTS NEVER DIE and the FIRE NEVER GOES OUT.”
LUK 6:24-26, a place of SORROWS and a time of AWFUL HUNGER which awaits you.
PRO 24:17 Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles;
PRO 24:18 Lest the Lord see {it} and be displeased, And He turn away His anger from him.
An anthropopathism ascribes a human characteristic to God; a characteristic, which God does not actually possess and one, which is not actually a divine attribute.
In Luke 16:19-31. Hell is said to be a place of TORMENT, and a place where literal thirst is never quenched.
In MAT 13:41-43, it is a place where the Fiery Furnace is and again our Lord says there will be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH.
MAT 13:49-50 Jesus says, “That is the way it will be at the End of the World. The Angels will come and separate the Wicked people from the Righteous, throwing the Wicked into the FIERY FURNACE, where there will be WEEPING AND GNASHING OF TEETH.”
Another important principle to remember is that just as there will be different Rewards in Heaven for Believers, there will be different
Degrees of Punishment for Unbelievers based on what they KNEW and on their DEEDS.
Another divine description of hell is a place of blackness and darkness as in 2PE 2:17 These are springs without water, and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved.
JUD 1:13 wild waves of the sea, casting up their own shame like foam; wandering stars, for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever.
JOB 31:12 It is a devastating fire that destroys to Hell. It would wipe out everything I own.
PSA 41:6 He (God) rains down blazing coals on the wicked, punishing them with burning sulfur (Fire and Brimstone) and scorching winds.
It is also a place where there is no escape PSA 140:10“Let burning coals fall down on their heads, or throw (cast) them into the fire, or into deep Pits from which they can’t escape (rise up again).”
One of the most hurtful things in the soul is found in MAR 9:44“Where their worm dies not, and the fire is not quenched.”
This is unlike Heaven where we will not be able to remember our family, friends and loved ones, REV 7:17; 21:4.
Hell is also called a place of destruction in PSA 55:23“But You, O God, shall bring them down to the Pit of destruction; Bloodthirsty and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; But I will trust in You.”
It is also identified as a bottomless pit in REV 9:1-2.
1. Hell is also identified as a fiery oven;
2.Flames of fire
3. Unquenchable fire
4. Furnace of fire
5. Eternal fire
6. Eternal punishment
7. Fiery hell8. Pits of darkness
1. Smoke of their torment2. No rest day and night3. Tormented
A place described as a place of torment, LUK 16:28.
A place where desire is never met, LUK 16:24.
A place of unspeakable misery indicated by the term, everlasting fire, MAT 25:41.
A place called outer darkness, MAT 8:12
Blackness of darkness, Jud 13
It is said about those suffering in REV 14:11, that “the smoke of their torment ascends up for ever and ever and they have no rest day or night”
That’s why we read in 2CO 6:2 “Now is the time of acceptance; now is the day of salvation.”
Hell is said to be banishment from the presence of God, 2TH 1:4.
Hell had to be enlarged by God to make room for man, ISA 5:14.
Hell is a also place where others can be recognized, LUK 16:23.
Hell is a place where people will pray but will not be heard, LUK 16:27.
Hell is said to last forever and ever, REV 14:11.
Hell is a place where the victims are eternally dying yet they are not in a state of death but a process of constantly dying,REV 2:11;20:14.
World is the kosmos = the organized world of human beings, those with OSN and spiritually dead.
We are all born without the equipment to love God i.e., spiritually dead.
Spiritual death means more than being separated from God, it means we do not even have the ability to love God.
So, when JOH 3:16 says For God so love the world that (the word that introduces a result clause)When God loves His love always produces a result…an action.
When a person has a M.A. the M.A. always produces a result, an action.
As HEB 12:15 See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled;
Bitterness can come from the intensity of suffering of mind and body or from something that is difficult to bear, something that causes animosity and reaction.
Ridicule and judging is a manifestation of bitterness, LAM 3:14.
JAM 3:14 “But if you have bitter jealousy and strife in your right lobe, do not be arrogant and do not lie against the truth.”
And when you are bitter, you actually tell yourself lies that are totally against the reality of doctrine and that’s what it means when it says–lying against the truth.
Bitterness causes stress and complaining which is why Job said in 7:11 “Therefore, I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the stress of my mind, I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.”
Remember 1JO 3:14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love abides in death.
1JO 3:15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
1JO 5:16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask and God will for him give life to those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death; I do not say that he should make request for this.
KJ – 1JO 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.
Bitterness also motivates gossip and the creation of the public lie, PSA 64:3 “They have sharpened their tongue like a sword. They aimed their bitter speech like an arrow.”
The bitter soul is contagious and pollutes others in HEB 12:15 “See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by it many are polluted.”
For God so loved the world (with the result) that He gave.
Love gives, love does not try to get.
His only begotten son, monogenes = only born son, uniquely born son…TLJC was the only member of the human race born without an OSN.
Only one was ever born already a Son of God, everyone else must become a son, they are not born a son.
The first Adam was created minus a sin nature but achieved one.For God so loved the world (with the result) that He gave His only born Son that … now we have a purpose clause = that whosever
ROM 5:6 For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.
2CO 5:14…one died for all, 2CO 5:19 God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself,
1TI 2:6 He gave Himself as a ransom for all, 1TI 4:10…He is the Savior of all men, especially of believers.
TIT 2:11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,
HEB 2:9 by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 2PE 2:1 the Master bought them,
1JO 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 1TI 2:4 who desires all men to be saved
2PE 3:9 He is not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. ACT 17:30 God is now declaring to men that all everywhere should repent,
Since sins have been judged at the cross, under the law of double jeopardy, they cannot be mentioned at the last judgment.
