“having already” = the perf-act-part of ballo which is beblekotos in the perfect tense it means that Judas has received negative information from the devil concerning our Lord Jesus Christ for some time now.

Have you ever wondered how someone can wake up some day and totally reject the doctrine that they have claimed to believe for such a long time?

“betray Him” is an aor-act-subj, parado which indicates the devil’s sworn purpose when he entered the room, it means to cause one to follow his own corrupt mind.

Devil’s objective = to help the Jewish leaders to accomplish their goal – try and stone the Lord Jesus Christ before He could go the cross and kill Him physically so He would not be able to die spiritually, JOH 11:49-57.

What better way to frustrate the cross then to turn the Lord over to the Sanhedrin so that they could have a quick trial and then stone Him to death.

It would be impossible for Jesus Christ to bear the sins of the world while He was bearing the weight of stones and dying physically.
The devil knew that it was going to be a cross as far as the Father’s plan was concerned, because in the prophecies of Moses,
David and Isaiah, He is said to die on wood.

Here is the devil personally present to keep the plan of God from being fulfilled, to hinder the cross.

The devil’s objective was to get Jesus to die physically not spiritually.

He was afraid that somehow Jesus will get on that cross where he would bear the sins of the world and die spiritually.

ROM 6:23  For the wages of sin is [spiritual] death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The day that Adam ate the fruit, that’s the day Adam would die spiritually – he lived physically over 930 years after that, GEN 5:3.

Satan has accomplished this, not by stopping the Lord from dying on the cross but through blinding believers from the difference between spiritual death and physical death.
Just before mystery doctrine is about to be taught, there is some form of satanic distraction to try and divert the communication of the mystery.

“had given” – an aor-act-ind, edoken correctly translated “had given = culminative aorist which means that in eternity past this  was settled as a part of the divine decrees.

The indicative mood is the reality of the eternal life conference in eternity past billions and billions of years before any creature was created.

You think you have problems and you start screaming out to God for answers and billions of years ago He knew your problems and provided the answers.

In eternity past He knew every problem you would ever have and made a provision for you to be able to handle your problems.

He’s the chief opponent among the fallen angels but because of  the angelic conflict he is not allowed to take on a visible form, so he has no feet.

The Lord Jesus Christ will get rid of the devil before He can begins to teach His disciples the mystery doctrine of the Church-age.

Satan ordered some of his fallen angels to follow the apostle Paul wherever he taught so that they could report to him what Paul taught concerning the mystery doctrine of the Church-age, 2CO 12:7.

“having put” is the perf-act-part of ballo meaning here to throw or to cast doubts concerning the words of our Lord or the word of God.
He tries to cast doubts and questions at others to distract them from the communication of Bible doctrine.

GEN 3:1  Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has God really said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

We have all heard at sometime or another, that one of the disciples was known so much for doubting that he was given the title “Doubting Thomas.”

GNB = JOH 20:27  Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and look at my hands; then reach out your hand and put it in my side. Stop your doubting, and believe!”

In MAT 14:31, we are told that the disciples were filled with fear because they saw the Lord walking on water and thought that it was a ghost and they ended up doubting that it was the Lord.

Fear can cause doubting – MAT 14:31  And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

In MAT 21:21, we are told that if we have faith and do not doubt, we can overcome tremendous obstacles which are against us.

MAT 21:21  And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith, and do not doubt, you shall not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it shall happen.

In MAT 28:16-17, we are told that doubt is the opposite of true worship toward our Lord.

MAT 28:16-17, But the eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. And when they saw Him, they worshiped {Him}; but some were doubtful.

Doubting also cause our heart to be overwhelmed with the troubles of life, says LUK 24:38  And He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts arise in your hearts?

The apostle says that doubting produces condemnation and is called sin, in ROM 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because {his eating is} not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.

James says that doubting produces instability and double-mindedness, JAM 1:5-6.

JAM 1:5-6, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

Jude tells us what our responsibility is when we are around those who doubt, JUD 1:21-22, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life. And have mercy on some, who are doubting;

Overcoming doubts gives us victory in the spiritual life, 2CO 10:3-6.

Doubt can be the beginning of wisdom, not the end.

When you have doubts about something, then those doubts can serve as a motivation to find the answers to the things you are doubting.

Don’t let doubts become traitors in your life that cause you to lose the good you could have achieved because you doubted that you could achieve it.

Sometimes by doubting we come to the truth – We should respect faith, but doubt is what gets us an education many times.

What a pity that so many people rather believe their doubts and doubt their beliefs.

The point is that faith can move mountains, doubt can create them.

Here is the devil who is personally present to try and keep the plan of God from being fulfilled by hindering our Lord from going to the cross.

Just before mystery doctrine is about to be taught, there is some form of satanic distraction to try and divert the communication of the mystery.

The disciples had come into the room as was the custom in the ancient world, bare footed.

Because of the way that they use to sit in the ancient world, which was to recline at the table – this was like us coming to the dinner table in our day and age with filthy dirty hands.

What they had were chamber pots and they dumped everything in the street, garbage, human excrement, etc.

Every house had a pool of water at the entrance, and when you rang the doorbell in the ancient world, they didn’t say, “Come in!” – they said, “Wash your feet.”

It was the servant at the door, and he made sure that you washed your feet, and he dried your feet.

Since there was no servant, they had to wash each other’s feet, and they wouldn’t do it, because they were having a hot argument as to which one of them was the greatest of the bunch.

Those knuckleheads. at this time, all went through the door simultaneously without washing their feet, and they are not sitting at a table, they are reclining Roman style.

In the ancient world, there was no town trash removal and worse then that, there were no sewers, no plumbers because there were no bathrooms.

TLJC was not going to teach anything, especially the mystery doctrine of Church-age, until He taught the importance of rebound before you can take in Bible doctrine.

1. The disciples had bathed before coming to the last supper….all of them had taken a bath.

2. The taken of a bath is analogous to salvation and therefore you can anticipate, one bath but many washings.

TIT 3:5  He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

3. From walking through the streets, the disciples have accumulated filth on their feet which is analogous to the believer being out of fellowship.

4. The custom of foot-washing is analogous to rebound. If you come with dirty feet what should you do before you sit down with the Lord as REV 3:20 says “and dine with Him”? – You must rebound.

5. Before you eat the Lord’s food, which is Bible doctrine. you wash your feet, rebound.

6. This dinner was fellowship with the Lord in which food was involved, our greatest fellowship with the Lord is when we meet to dine upon Bible doctrine.

7. The feet also represent service, it’s impossible to serve the Lord with dirty feet.

8. In the last chapter, JOH 12:3, the feet of Jesus had been anointed with oil, while at the beginning of this chapter, the feet of the disciples are washed.

9. Oil on the feet of the Savior indicates the sustaining ministry of the Holy Spirit while water on the feet of the disciples indicates the cleansing of the rebound technique.

10. TLJC will wash their feet which is a picture of Christ providing the basis of rebound on the cross.
ISA 52:7 quoted in ROM 10:15, “How beautiful are the feet of those who communicate glad tidings of good things!”

It means that all communicators of doctrine have to keep their feet clean or be cleansed to communicate.

“laying aside His garments” is analogous to our Lord in PHI 2:6-8  Who, although He existed in the essence of God, He did not think equality with God a thing to be seized, but He laid aside His privileges, taking the form of a slave, having come to be in the likeness of men.
