Egypt represents a type of the world or the cosmic system.

The first major problem that the Jews faced when they left Egypt which was the fear and panic strategy.

Just as Israel is a type of the believer's soul and Egypt is a type of the world system, and therefore as believers we have been called out of the world or the cosmic system to bring glory to God.

COL 1:13 For He delivered us from the domain or the kingdom of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

Israel is a type of the believer's soul and we need to wait upon the promises and the timing of God.

There are a lot of new circumstances that come one's way when you have been freed from the bondage of slavery that you depending upon.

GAL 5:13   For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

  1. It is possible to learn a great many doctrines, and yet fall apart in an emergency or sudden pressure situation.

One is because for some, the way of forgetting often exceeds the rate of learning because of certain problems along the way.

To use doctrine under pressure requires overall spiritual strength.

All spiritual strength is in the pre-frontal lobe of the soul, known as the mind and the heart.

PSA 23:3  He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.

In a sudden disaster what you think and how you think will determine how you handle the test.

  1. Sudden disaster often places the believer in panic palace much to his own shock.

By panic palace I mean a place that you cannot concentrate on the doctrine which you have learned.

It is one of those areas where your mind just goes blank at times.

  1. The difference between fear and courage then is an issue in panic palace.

If you have trouble concentrating under normal situations, you will have trouble concentrating under pressure situations.

Eph 6:16 above all taking the shield of faith, in which you shall be able to extinguish all the fiery darts or the flaming missiles of the wicked.

Sam-shield)

  1. A coward is a person who might under normal circumstances be fine, but a coward cannot think under pressure.

1Co 10:13  God is faithful, who will not permit you to be tested above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.

When I use the word cowardice, I am not using it in an insulting way, but I am using it for blanking out or for blacking out under pressure situations.

  1. Concentration is required then, not only for learning Bible Doctrine and metabolizing it, but concentration is required even to a greater extent when under a stress situation.

  1. Adversity, suffering, disaster, stress, is certainly designed to destroy your concentration and to cause your rate of forgetting to exceed your rate of learning.

  1. Because of the Angelic conflict and the issue of human freedom.
  2. To accelerate the spiritual growth of the believer.

  1. This point explains in part why it is so difficult; it is the suddenness of it all.

The suddenness intensifies disaster and hinders the believer from concentration on promises and on Bible doctrine which has been learned in Bible class under the concept of epignosis.

  1. Normal reaction to disaster can very easily be fear and panic.

There is a fear which is an emotional sin and actually a part of the emotional complex of sins.

Deu 31:6 Be strong and of courageous, do not be afraid because of them, for the lord your god is the one who goes with you, he will not fail you nor forsake you.

It wasn't a matter of their salvation but the fact that they could not handle stress, they could not handle pressure.

They had one major problem which led to many more - fear.

The reason is that so many believers are just not in the spiritual condition to handle the shield of faith.

Psa 56:3   "When I am afraid I will trust in you.

Batach = the word for body slamming or casting all your worries upon the Lord.

True faith always selects something that is stronger than the strength of stress.

The suddenness of a change often from prosperity, or what appears to be prosperity causes stress.

The Jews have just been freed from slavery and therefore their big problem is gone.

As they move out from Egypt and they are rejoicing and filled with all kinds of happiness and then all of a sudden a situation filled with a lot of stress comes along.

They wanted to return to slavery even though they had the greatest leader in all of human history leading them.

Israel is often a perfect picture of our own soul.

For many believers they do not want freedom, they want security.

The solution is found in the faith-rest drill as a problem solving device.

All other dispensational tests had proved man a failure and utterly incapable in himself of doing the will of God.

In this new age, God purposed to give man His will in every detail.

Actually what we have is the Jews being pursued by the famous army of Pharaoh.

This is the first time since the Jews were delivered from the slavery that they were able to use the shield of faith which Moses had been teaching them.

They had just seen the fantastic power of God in delivering them through the 10 plagues.

They know the wonderful things that God did on their behalf and how God established Moses as the leader.

The suddenness of this thing puts them right into panic palace.

The rate of forgetting exceeds the rate of learning.

Three exceptions = Moses, Joshua, and Caleb.

Moses continued to concentrate on doctrine in this disastrous situation while the majority of his congregation is also guilty of the blackout of the soul.

The word for looked is the Qal imperfect of the Hebrew verb nasa which means that they kept on staring.

By concentrating on Pharaoh's army, they completely forgot the grace of God and the power of God....and the marvelous deliverance that they had experienced just a week or so before.

"They began to gripe and complain."

Griping and complaining Christians are not going to be able to handle the shield of faith.

We concentrate on the circumstances of pressure rather than the principles of doctrine.

One of the main distractions in time of pressure is mentioned in verse 10.....emotion.

Prin-People who concentrate on the problem and human viewpoint, always lose out.
