The Wisdom of GOD.

MAT 4:1-3, Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of GOD (the Greek says, and you are), then the devil said “command that these stones become bread.”

This is the devil, which is one of his titles, not his name. No one really knows the Devil’s real name because whether it is the Devil or Satan; it is simply just one of his titles not one of his names.

Satan is arrogant and arrogance hates to be ignored. Arrogance wants to be recognized and when it is not, it rebels and attacks.

This is why there are so many descriptions of Satan or the Devil or the evil one which all adds up to be titles of Satan and the Kingdom of Darkness but it is not his real name. This is why I truly believe that it is the humor of GOD that will not permit or allow Satan’s real name to be elevated or promoted because arrogance hates to be ignored and Satan is the epitome of this arrogance.

And this is why we read in MAT 4:4, But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of GOD.

Here is the “Written Word” that Satan and his kingdom of Darkness use against GOD’s people no matter who they are. Therefore, the “Written Word” describes our LORD’s function and relationship with HIS people.

Notice back in MAT 4:5, we read what the devil tried to do by using the word of GOD or abusing the word of GOD.

MAT 4:5-6, Then the devil took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of GOD [and you are] throw Yourself down;

Notice that this time the devil is the one using the word of GOD or trying to entice GOD’s people with his lies.

MAT 4:6, and [the devil] said to Him, “If You are the Son of GOD throw Yourself down; [then notice what Satan or the devil uses to deceive GOD’s people —

This time it is the devil who is misquoting the Word hoping to get the humanity of our LORD to fail.

MAT 4:6 “If You are the Son of GOD throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give His angels charge concerning You’; and ‘ On {their} hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.

So, this time Satan uses the word to distort and attack those who live by the Written Word.

Remember what we read in Gen 3?

GEN 3:1, Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the LORD GOD had made. And he said to the woman, “Indeed, has GOD said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden’?”

All the Devil is doing here is to mislead or deceive those who are listening to his lies because we need to remember that Satan or the devil really has no respect for the word of GOD at all.

GEN 3:2-3, And the woman said to the serpent, “From the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat; but from the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, GOD has said, ‘You shall not eat from it or touch it, lest you die.’”

Remember that she is misquoting the word of GOD.

So in GEN 3:4, And the serpent said to the woman, “You surely shall not die!

He gets right to the point — that is his point not GOD’s point. So that we read in Gen 3:5, here are the lies of Satan again trying to distort and deceive those who desire to know the truth once again.

In Gen 3:5, here comes the outright attack made by Satan; “For GOD knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like GOD, knowing good and evil.”

In other words, Satan is saying if you want to be like GOD all you have to do is to follow what Satan says. The word of GOD has been abused, misused and misquoted.

And so, back in MAT 4, we have a passage that Satan uses and misquotes  for those who want to be like GOD.

But, as usual, he is nothing but a liar and therefore everything that he promises he cannot fulfill.

MAT 4:5-7, Then the Devil [Heylel] took Him into the holy city; and he had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and he [that is the devil] said to Him, “If You are the Son of GOD [first class condition – and you are (then) throw Yourself down; for it is written, ‘He will give His angels charge concerning You’; and ‘On {their} hands they will bear You up, Lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’ Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written, ‘You shall not put the LORD your GOD to the test.”

Notice that the Devil tried to use the word of GOD, by distorting the word or using the Word of GOD against our LORD.

Don’t miss this. In fact, notice that this is why we are told to make sure we have not added to the Word of GOD or that we do not subtract from the Word.

For example, in REV 22:18-19, the apostle John writes: I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, GOD shall add to him the plagues which are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, GOD shall take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book.

All of these passages are quoted in the “Written Word” passages. On the other hand, the “Living Word” is the result of studying the life that our LORD lived for all of us.

Now, back to proverbs chapter Eight, I have divided this chapter in three different sections. So far we have noted the first section or paragraph which is given in the first 11 verses of proverbs chapter eight where we have the importance of the communication of Bible doctrine; PRO 8:1-11.

Then, in the second paragraph in Pro 8 verses 12-21, we have the second section which deals with the production of doctrine or that which wisdom or chokmah in the Hebrew produces in us; PRO 8:12-21.

And so we are now ready to look at the importance of the wisdom of GOD as we are reminded about a few of the passages that really make our life unique.

For example, PRO 8:17, “I doctrine love those who love me;”

The most important love in your life is to love doctrine which is the means or the vehicle of your personal love toward GOD. If you do not have phileo love or personal love for GOD, then the Bible says that we will be under a curse.

I did not say this, the apostle Paul said this in 1CO 16:22, “If anyone does not personally love the LORD, let him be accursed. Maranatha. Or under a curse until the LORD comes back.

And so, love for doctrine or the Word of GOD will always respond to you and love you back. Therefore, before we finish Proverbs 8 we need to know what PRO 8:17 actually says: “I [doctrine-wisdom] love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me.

Notice the word diligently which refers to the fact that it takes effort to search for doctrine.

And, as we noted this past week, Bible doctrine is not going to force itself upon you because doctrine or the wisdom of GOD reveals that our LORD is a perfect gentleman.

This does not mean that we should just stand by and wait for the LORD. This means that Bible doctrine requires some aggression on our part.

The Hebrew verb for “diligently seek” is known as being in the Piel stem of the Hebrew verb shachar. This is an intensive stem or an intensive search for the word of GOD.

Therefore, again PRO 8:18 goes on to say that Riches and honor are with me, enduring wealth and righteousness.

However, notice that it says riches and honor are with me not in other places; like the apostle Peter taught us in 2PE 2:18-22, For speaking out arrogant {words} of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. For if after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment delivered to them. It has happened to them according to the true proverb, “A dog returns to its own vomit,” and, “A sow, after washing, {returns} to wallowing in the mire.”

PRO 8:19-20, wisdom or chokmah says My fruit or the production of chokmah is better than gold, even pure gold, and my yield or my profit than choicest silver.

PRO 8:20 I walk in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of justice,

And then notice in verse 21 what doctrine does.

Doctrine or the word of GOD is said to do something just for us as in PRO 8:21, which says that doctrine or chokmah is said to endow those who love me [wisdom] with wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.

Here endow is the Hebrew verb nachal which means to cause my lovers to inherit, it means to get or take as a possession.

This word nachal according to the Theological wordbook of the Old Testament signifies giving or receiving property or blessings which is a part of the believer’s permanent possession as a result of his positive volition toward doctrine.

In other words, doctrine causes your escrow blessings to be released in time, little by little, or in the eternal state.

This Hebrew verb nachal means something that is permanently given to the believer and therefore something that has eternal repercussions.

Here’s the principle; It is through knowledge of doctrine that the believer receives his inheritance.

That’s why PRO 8:21 says that wisdom will endow those who love me [chokmah] with wealth, that I may fill their treasuries.

Treasuries is the Hebrew noun otsar which means a storehouse, an armory, an escrow account; a place of escrow blessings.

It is a reference to the divine house which the LORD builds through doctrine and therefore it refers to the soul structure which doctrine has built.

This passage, as well as others, reveal to us the changes that we should have and see in ourselves as well as in others.

Here is where passages like 2Co 5:16 come to the light.

2CO 5:14-16, For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, that they who live should no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. Therefore from now on we recognize no man according to the flesh [or according to what they use to be]; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know {Him} {thus} no longer.

And then notice next in 2CO 5:17, Therefore if any man is in Christ, {he is} a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

This point falls under the principle of the fact that it is GOD who is at work for His people.

We know this because of what PRO 24 says about the One Who is at work within us.

For example, in PRO 24:1-6, Do not be envious of evil men, Nor desire to be with them; For their minds devise violence, And their lips talk of trouble. By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established; And by knowledge the rooms [the rooms of your soul] are filled With all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong, And a man of knowledge increases power. For by wise guidance you will wage war, And in abundance of counselors there is victory.

Finally, we have the third paragraph which is found in PRO 8:22-36, here is where we have the dynamics of metabolize doctrine.

Notice Pro 8:22 where doctrine or wisdom is still personified which begins with a very important principle of what our LORD was doing some time in eternity past which starts out with the phrase “The LORD possessed me.”

This is a reference to the Bible doctrine our LORD possessed in eternity past when He, our LORD, used to bring glory to our GOD.

Remember, we began with what our LORD was doing at some time in eternity past. This means that having Bible doctrine was in the mind of Christ always in eternity past.

And, as most of you know by now, we are noting what our LORD was doing at some time in eternity past.

Next, we will study the birth of our LORD, and then the life of our LORD and then finally, the ultimate victory of our LORD on the Cross.

The point is that there are a lot of things about our LORD that we need to learn all about. And that is why we have one of the greatest passages on this subject by noting that in PRO 8:22, we read that the wisdom of GOD is revealed by passages that teach that us he principle that “The LORD possessed Me at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.”

Notice that in Pro 8:22, we read The LORD possessed Me [that is the chokmah or the wisdom of GOD] and then the passage that goes on to say that Our LORD was being blessed and we would say that  the LORD Possessed doctrine [notice] at the beginning of His way, before His works of old.

The LORD possessed the chokmah or the wisdom that He was possessed by the wisdom of GOD. This passage reveals that the LORD is not only possessed by doctrine but the LORD also used doctrine to perform HIS works.

Also notice that this passage says that the LORD has a beginning of His way, before His works of old. So that doctrine was working together with the Spirit of GOD and we are told that our LORD used the wisdom in the beginning of “His way,” before “His Works of Old.

All of this tells us how our LORD used chokmah or wisdom in the beginning of His way, before His works of old. Now, if you can’t see the LORD doing what He desires, then you have missed out on this doctrinal information.

Doctrine was around in eternity past.

Doctrine was around before the creation of the angels.

Doctrine was around before the angelic conflict.

PRO 8:23 goes on to say: From everlasting or from eternity past I doctrine was established,

The Hebrew verb to be established is the verb nasak which means to be installed in the rooms of your soul.

Next we read that From the beginning, from the earliest times of the earth, doctrine was there.

PRO 8:24, When there were no depths or no oceans I doctrine was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water.

Here we have the principle that the most valuable thing is usually the thing that is the oldest, and the oldest thing is in the form of thought and that thought is Bible doctrine.

It has always been around.

PRO 8:25, “Before the mountains were settled into place, before the hills I doctrine was brought forth;

When you look out and see the magnificence of the mountains, just remember before those hills were settled in place…… doctrine existed even before them.

PRO 8:26-27, While The LORD had not yet made the earth and the fields, nor the first dust of the world.” When He TLJC established the heavens, I doctrine was there, when He Jesus Christ inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,

TLJC is the One who created all things, and in this passage wisdom is saying: when He established the heavens I wisdom was there.

PRO 8:28-30, When He made firm the skies above, when the springs of the deep became fixed, When He set for the sea its boundary, so that the water should not transgress his command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth; Then I doctrine was beside Him, {as} a master workman;

Notice that the LORD Jesus Christ used doctrine to create the universe.

Doctrine has been by GOD’s side from the beginning.
