Moses – Red Sea Part 2
Fear-Trust
Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal future
Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. Promise Memory Verse
“Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord.” – Exodus 14:13a
God wanted the Hebrew slaves in Egypt to be free!
In order to get the Pharaoh of Egypt’s attention, God had to show His power over and over because the evil ruler was bull-headed. In fact the Pharaoh didn’t have an ounce of compassion or sympathy for the Hebrew slaves. It was like his heart was made of stone.
Sometimes God does things that we would never expect in a million Years! He put on a spectacular display of His awesome, mighty power in order to set the Israelites free. Let’s remember how God did that from our Bible story last week? He didn’t use weapons like we have today in fact guns and missiles hadn’t been invented yet.
God picked Moses to be His helper and the leader, and guess what, Moses was also Jewish
List of the 10 Plagues
The first thing that happened was that God turned the Nile River and the other water in Egypt into blood. Dead, rotting, smelly fish made the whole thing a terrible, disgusting mess!
Secondly, God sent frogs and they didn’t stay outside! Croaking frogs invaded everyone’s houses and even jumped on their beds just like a trampoline! After the plague was over, there were mountains of dead frogs piled up all over the place.
Third, God turned the dust into gnats. Everyone must have looked like they spent a day at the beach and had sand all over them, but it was really creepy little bugs.
Fourth, God sent gigantic swarms of flies to the Egyptians, but not to the Hebrew slaves. Can you imagine what it must have been like to have thousands of flies covering their bodies? I’ll bet everyone even had maggots in their hair!
Fifth, God allowed every Egyptian sheep, donkey, horse, camel, and all of the cattle that were in the fields to get a horrible disease and die. This sounds a little like Covid-19 doesn’t?
Sixth, God made everyone’s skin including the animals; erupt with oozing sores called boils. I’ll bet they all were in horrible pain!
Seventh, God made it thunder; fire zinged and huge hunks of hail came down from the sky. It was the complete opposite of a beautiful display of fireworks. Trees were shattered, crops were destroyed and even many of the people and animals that were outside died.
Eighth, God sent locusts to cover every square inch of ground and they ate all of the fruit on the trees and what was left of the plants until Egypt was totally destroyed!
Ninth, heavy darkness covered all of Egypt except where the Israelites lived. There was no light whatsoever for 3 days. It was like the Egyptians were totally blind!
Tenth, the first born in every family died,
except those who had lambs blood painted on their door posts. Finally after the Pharaoh’s first born and the other Egyptian’s first born died, the mean old Pharaoh released the Israelites.
READ : Exodus 14-15:1
The Lord appeared to Moses and the Jewish people in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire at night. Moses followed both pillars and led the Israelites out of Egypt. They camped close to the Red Sea. God in His grace told Moses that the Pharaoh would end up coming after them.
Sure enough, Pharaoh with his heart of stone soon changed his mind and gathered up hundreds of chariots and his army. Their horses galloped as fast as they could until they reached the Israelite camp site. The angel of the Lord who was in the pillar of cloud moved behind the Israelites camp to protect them from the Pharaoh and his armies.
While this was going on God told Moses to stretch out his hand over the Red Sea. Our Heavenly Father sent a powerful wind that blew so hard that it divided the waters in two. This allowed Moses and his group to walk right through the Red Sea on dry land!
Well you will never guess what happened. The Pharaoh and all of the Egyptian army charged into the dry path after Moses and the former slaves! God decided to have a little fun with the soldiers, so he confused them by suddenly making the wheels on the chariots swerve, so they were hard to drive!
Once that happened, God told Moses again to stretch out his hand over the Red Sea. The walls of water came crashing back down! Every single soldier including the Pharaoh died!
Moses and the Israelites were so happy that the made up songs and sang praises to God because His power saved them, just like our memory verse for today says.
Reason to trust God – He is powerful!
