The Armor of God – Part 4
The Shield of Faith
Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal Future
Before you begin this Bible study, if you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John
3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, then 1 John 1:9 tells us: “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. Promise-Memory Verse
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God,
so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10-11
The soldiers in the Roman army wore armor.
The first piece that they put on was the belt. It was attached to the breastplate, and it held some of their weapons. It also protected their lungs and their hearts.
God gives you the “belt of truth.” When you learn Bible Doctrine, you will start to be able to tell the truth from lies. The “breastplate of righteousness” hooks into the belt. God shares His perfect righteousness with you. In order to activate it, you need to rebound.
After you tell God what you did wrong, you will be filled with God the Holy Spirit. He helps you and teaches you so that you will be able to do
right things no matter what bad stuff is happening to you.
Next, the Roman soldier wore sturdy sandals made with thick leather.
There were spikes on the bottom of them sort of like baseball cleats. These kept the soldiers steady so they didn’t fall down.
God gives you boots or shoes of the gospel of peace. This is called reconciliation. The wall between us and God has fallen down. It also means you are always ready in any situation to tell other people how to get saved.
Another one of the weapons that the Roman soldiers used was a shield. This shield was 4 feet tall, and 3 feet wide and it curved inward. It was made by gluing some hard wooden planks together. The outside of them were covered in leather and canvas.
At times, the Roman soldier would link their shields together in front of themselves and over their heads. This kept them safe from being killed from swords, and fiery darts.
“In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one” Ephesians 6:16
Another valuable piece of armor that God gives to you is the “shield of faith.” When you learn God’s Word of truth, found in the Bible, you will start to learn how to trust God. He also put over 7,000 promises in the Bible to help you with this. At first, it may be kind of hard to remember the promises.
That’s why you should make yourself a little notebook, and write some of them down. After you learn some reasons to trust God, you will be ready to use your “shield of faith.” The more times you trust God, the easier it will be.
Satan and his minions love to shoot fiery arrows at your soul. They want to try and stop you from being active in God’s army. One of their favorite things to do is to make you be afraid or worry. They also love it when you are upset because someone hurt your feelings, or when you are discouraged.
When you are worried or afraid, you need to rebound first. Then it’s time to remember a promise from God.
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” Psalm 56:3
Next, it time to think of a reason to trust God. The verse below gives you a reason to trust God.
If God can take care of the birds, then He will take care of you.
“Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?”
What do you think happens next? You need to stop worrying, and go have some fun because you trust that God to take care of it. When you do this, you are using the “shield of faith.” So, link your shields with other believers. You’re all in the Lord’s army.
