He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come; see the place where He was lying. Matthew 28:6

The true meaning of Easter is all about how Jesus rose from the dead after 3 days and is alive to this very day. Jesus is the Lamb of God that took away the sins of the world.

We are all sinners and have old sin natures; this means that we can’t save ourselves and go to Heaven when we die by trying to be a good person.

If you save up all of your birthday and Christmas money, you will never have enough cash to get into Heaven. You see, Heaven can’t be bought with money.

Jesus loves all of us and He knew that we are totally unable to go to Heaven because of all of the bad things we think, do and say.

Since He was perfect in every way, He gave up His life to save our lives while He was separated from God the Father when on the cross paying for our sins.

Jesus was nailed to the cross and had a crown of thorns on His head. He must have been in terrible pain! What made matters worse was that lots of the people were yelling at Jesus and making fun of Him. Jesus didn’t get mad though; He forgave them.

When He was done paying for our sins, He yelled out Tetalesti-It is finished forever and then He died. A soldier plunged a spear into His side to make sure He was dead.

Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemous wrapped His body in linen cloth with some spices and put him in a tomb and rolled a large stone in front of it. The tomb was sealed and guarded by Roman soldiers.

Matthew 28:1-20; Mark 16:1-20; Luke 24:1-49; and John 20:1-21:25.

There was an earthquake 3 days after Jesus died, and an angel rolled back the stone so that everyone could see that the tomb was empty. The guards were so scared that they fainted.

Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Salome and Joanna left early in the morning to go to the tomb. When they got to the burial place; they were surprised that the heavy stone had been rolled away! They went inside the tomb and saw 2 angels, who said:

He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come; see the place where He was lying.” Matthew 28:6

Mary didn’t understand that Jesus rose from the dead and was alive.

She ran and told Peter and John that someone had stolen Jesus’ body. Peter, John and Mary hurried to the tomb. Peter went inside first, then John went in; Jesus was gone! The only thing in the tomb was the cloth material that Jesus had been wrapped in.

They didn’t understand that Jesus rose from the dead and was alive either.

Mary Madeline stayed at the tomb and started crying; she saw two angels inside the tomb. They asked her why she was so upset. Mary told them that somebody had stolen Jesus’ body.

Suddenly Mary turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she thought he was the gardener. He asked her why she was crying and Mary asked him if he took Jesus’ body and put it somewhere else.

Jesus said to her “Mary!” She turned and said to Him Teacher, and she knew that it was Jesus and that He had risen from the dead. Mary ran and told the disciples that Jesus was alive, but they didn’t believe her.

Jesus appeared to Mary the Mother of James, Salome, Joanna, two men walking, Peter and the other disciples and they finally believed the great news that Jesus was alive! Jesus rose (resurrection) and came back to life after He had been dead for 3 days!

When you see all of the bunnies in your Easter basket this year, don’t forget Jesus, the Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world and rose from the dead after 3 days.

So how can you get eternal life, go to Heaven when you die and be saved forever?

Simply tell God the Father that you believe that Jesus paid for your sins by dying on the cross for them.
