Moses – Part 5
Whiners and Complainers #2

Before you begin this Bible study, if you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John
3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, then 1 John 1:9 tells us: “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit, and He will teach you Bible truth. (Rebound)
Promise Memory Verse
“Do all things without grumbling or arguing.” Philippians 2:14
“Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God.” Luke 12:6
Sparrows are not the type of birds to catch our attention. Yet, God mentions them in the memory verse above. He never forgets about these ordinary, little brown birds.
These fluff balls have no worries about figuring out what they are going to eat each day. God gives them food during their entire lifetime, just like the Israelites received manna every day for forty years.
If they see a bird feeder full of seeds, they are never greedy.
While four birds eat from it, the other four will sit nearby on the porch railing patiently waiting for their turn. They never see people eating ice-cream cones and wish for one of those instead of bird food. Sparrows are content with what God provides for them in grace.
God always makes sure to take care of all of His creatures whether they are birds, rabbits, or even the crabby, whiny, former slaves of Egypt.

Our Heavenly Father could have sent down anything He wanted for the Israelites to eat.
He could have thrown down hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, or even chocolate chip cookies.
Instead, He sent manna 6 days a week for 40 years. On the sixth day, He provided double the manna so that they would not have to work on the 7th day of the week, which was called the Sabbath Day.
The Sabbath was a day set aside to rest, appreciate, worship and thank God for everything He had given them. The manna came with another rule as well: It would be nasty and filled with worms if they tried to gather extra, unless it was on the 6th day of the week.
The Israelites continued to have bad attitudes even though they never had to work for or pay one single penny for their food. In fact, they didn’t even thank God for the perfect meals from Heaven. God provided for all them even though none of them deserved it. That is how Grace works!
Moses and his group followed God, who was in the cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night. Soon after, God sent quail and manna for them to eat. It was time for them to get moving back into the wilderness. He gave them a test: there wasn’t any water. Oh no! What must they remember to do? Would they trust God to provide?
The Israelites forgot all about God’s gift of manna and how powerful He was when He rescued them by opening up the Red Sea. Instead, they pointed their fingers at Moses, blaming him for bringing them out of Egypt to die of thirst. In fact, they were so angry at Moses that they wanted to murder him!
So, God told Moses to go Horeb and to strike the rock with his staff.
Moses trusted and obeyed God and smacked the rock with his staff. Amazingly, water came gushing out of it! Once again, God was very gracious to them, even though the Israelites flunked the test by not trusting God.
God gives everyone of us lots of tests, so that we will completely understand that God will help us with everything. What will we do? Will we complain and be like the Israelites, or be happy with what God gives us, like a sparrow?
Reason to trust God – If God can take care of a little sparrow, then He will take care of us.
