If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. “Blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it.” Luke 11:28b
Our Bible story today is a parable that Jesus taught during the Hypostatic Union when He was alive. It seems like it’s talking about gardening, but it’s really talking about different kinds of people.
Matthew 13:1-23, Mark 4:1-25, Luke 8:4-6
One day Jesus was surrounded by a large group of people on the beach. He got in a boat and told a short story called a parable about the sower. The sower is somebody that plants seeds in the ground like a farmer.
Jesus mentioned that there was someone outside planting seeds and as he was planting them, some of them fell on to the ground and birds ate them up.
This verse is talking about the unbeliever. An unbeliever is somebody that hears about Jesus dying on the cross for their sins, but doesn’t believe in Jesus as their Savior. This person says NO to God.
Not every person who is told about Jesus dying on the cross for their sins believes it.
Some of the seeds dropped in the rocky soil and grew quickly but since they weren’t planted deep enough they dried up in the sun.
This verse means that some people believe in Jesus as their Savior, but they don’t care about learning Bible Doctrine. This person says YES to God for their salvation, but NO to God because they don’t care about learning about Him.
Not everybody who believes in Jesus as their Savior wants to hear God’s Word.
Some of the seeds fell in the thorns and were smothered by them. This verse is talking about a person that learns Bible Doctrine, but doesn’t stick with it and doesn’t trust God to help them. This person says YES to God for their salvation and YES to learning about God, but they get distracted by other things and end up saying NO to God.
Not everybody who believes in Jesus as their Savior will keep on learning God’s Word and trust Him to help them.
Some seeds fell on good soil and produced lots and lots of food, way more than they expected. This is the person who says YES to God for their salvation and YES to God for learning Bible Doctrine and YES to God for trusting in Him with everything that happens in their life.
This is a person who believes in Jesus as their Savior who loves hearing God’s Word and trusts God to handle everything.
“Blessed are those who hear the word of God and follow it.” Luke 11:28b
Now we will see some people that acted just like the people in our Bible story today.
Megan was at school and one day she told her friend Laura all about how Jesus died on the cross for her sins. Laura called her a mean name and made fun of her in front of all of her friends. Laura was an unbeliever and said no to believing in Jesus as her savior.
Alex was so excited after his aunt and uncle took him to Sunday school! When he heard all about Jesus and how He died on the cross for his sins He believed in Jesus as his savior. The next few weeks, when his aunt and uncle wanted him to come to church with them he didn’t feel like it and every time they asked he kept on saying no so he could do other things instead.
Katie had believed in Jesus as her Savior when she was 10 years old at her grandma’s house. She loved hearing Bible lessons from her, but by the time she was 12 years old, she was more interested in having sleepovers with her friends than she was in learning Bible Doctrine. When she was afraid of something or had a problem, she called her friends and forgot all about trusting God.
Brady had accepted Jesus as his Savior when he was 7 years old. He loved learning Bible Doctrine from his dad. When he grew up, he was even more excited about God and listened to His Word all of the time. He felt peaceful and happy on the inside ever time, he trusted God.
God wants you to choose to be the person who accepts Jesus as your Savior and loves hearing God’s word and trusting Him like Brady did.
Say “yes” when you hear God’s Word!
