Prayer – Part 4
06/28/2020
Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. “Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me,
and I will listen to you.” Jeremiah 29:12
Our Bible story takes place in the church age which is the time period that we live in right now. God chose twelve men to be apostles when the church age began. Their job was to spread the good news on how to become a Christian, all over the world. Being a Christian means that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior.
King Herod Agrippa of Judea was very wicked and he hated Christians. He loved mistreating (persecuting) them. One day, he captured the apostle James and you will never guess what he did! He took a sword and killed him for being a Christian!
It’s never ok to make fun of other people or to hurt them because they are different than you are! It doesn’t matter if they look like a polka dotted bunny, have braces, wear glasses, or like to dress up like a Power Ranger; God wants you to be kind to everyone. This is called grace.
There were a bunch of evil people living in the kingdom, they were glad that King Herod Agrippa killed James. When King Herod Agrippa realized the approval of the people, he sent 4 squads of soldiers to arrest the apostle Peter. He planned to murder him too. Peter was placed in prison, while the Passover celebration was going on. They chained him up between two Roman soldiers and two other soldiers guarded the cell door. There was no possible way for him to escape.
The church of God, believers at that time, started praying for Peter. God heard their prayers! The Angel of the Lord suddenly appeared in the prison to help. He woke Peter up, told him to stand and the chains just fell off his hands.
Peter got dressed and followed Angel of the Lord outside of the prison. The Romans soldiers didn’t even notice because they were sleeping. Peter was so happy to be free. He went to tell everyone from the church of God that their prayers were answered. God rescued him when it seemed impossible for him to escape. God is more powerful than a rocket launching into space. (Omnipotent)
God is always ready to listen to you. He is never too busy. He doesn’t hear you if you pray without being in fellowship with Him. When we rebound the bad things we think, do and say, then we are in fellowship with God. He hears you whether you pray out loud or silently inside your mind.
God the Father always wants us to pray to Him, never to Jesus or his mom Mary, or God the Holy Spirit. Next, think of something you are thankful for and let God know and say “Father I am thankful I got to have tacos today.”
God wants you to pray for other people. This means each day, you should try and notice if there is anyone who needs God’s help. Let’s play I Spy:
I Spy my sister, she fell off her bike and scraped her knee, I’ll bet it hurts.
I Spy my grandpa, his heart hurt so bad, he is in the hospital.
Just say, “Father I pray for my sister, she needs your help to feel better. Father, my grandpa needs your help so he can get out of the hospital.”
Next, pray for yourself. ‘Father please keep me safe, and please help me learn to swim.” Then end your prayer in “Jesus name, amen.”
How do I talk to you God?
I will tell God before I pray all the wrong I did today
I do not pray to Jesus or a piece of clay or stone
But, to my Heavenly Father who hears me without a phone
I am thankful my mom let me have blue hair
I pray for my dad who fell down the stairs
Please Father don’t let me dream again about the purple bear,
who was chasing my dog Rex everywhere
In Jesus name, I pray amen
