Thankfulness/ Eternal Security Part 2
Promise Memory Verse
“ and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.”
Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. Last week, we talked about being in God’s family forever and being thankful. The lesson showed how a certain father had two sons and the younger one wanted his inheritance and to go away from home. The older son stayed at home. The father gave a portion of the inheritance to the younger son and he ended up going to a far away country and wasting every cent of it. Almost out of money, food became in short supply and soon he was starving. Even the pig food, which was stuff like corn cobs, pods and garbage started to look good to him. Would you want to eat that kind of stuff?
Finally, the younger brother came to his senses and decided to go back home to his dad. He didn’t think that his father would even want him as his son; but maybe he could work for his dad in order to earn some money and get something to eat.
When his dad saw him coming, he was so thankful that his son was home! He even ran to him, hugged and kissed him and gave him new clothes and shoes to wear! Of course his father didn’t hire him as a worker because no matter how many mistakes his son made, he loved and forgave him. This younger son would always be a part of the family no matter what he did wrong. I’ll bet he probably learned a lesson and was very thankful for now for his father’s attitude towards him.
When the older son came in from working in the fields, he started hearing dancing and music. Yum, something smelled delicious! Wow, it looked like his dad was having a huge party! He asked someone what was going on. After finding out that it was for his brother, he became furious! How dare his father throw a celebration for his brother and reward him for running off, having fun and wasting all of his money!
His dad tried to reason with him, but the older son did not understand why his father did what he did for the younger son. The older brother was so mad that he wouldn’t even go to the party! He needed to rebound because he was jealous, angry and thought he was better than his brother. Even though he felt this way, he was still a part of the family too.
Jesus told this story because He wanted everyone to know that once we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior, we are in God’s family forever. We can never ever lose our Salvation by the bad things we think, do or say. God will always love and forgive us. We need to be thankful that Jesus stayed on the cross even though He was in terrible pain, because of His love for us.
“ and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.” John 10:28
We have been studying about thankfulness for the past couple of weeks. Last time we learned that there are many things that we have been missing while staying home. This week, we need to look at something else that we should be thankful for. It’s our freedom.
We just had a holiday called Memorial Day. Have you ever wondered why we celebrate it? It is to give special respect and thanks for all men and women who were in the military and died while protecting our country.
Lately we have seen what it’s like to lose some of the freedom that we are use to having. I’ll bet you never thought that you would ever have to stop going to school and have to learn on line instead. Did you ever think that you wouldn’t be able to hang out with friends, go to the park, eat inside restaurants, go camping or boating, go to church and even getting a haircut?
What would it feel like to never get to do anything you use to do ever again?
In some countries, the people are not allowed to do what they want even when they are not staying at home because a lot of people are sick.Living in our country is very special. You need to appreciate every American that is part of the military. They sometimes have to give up their lives to protect all of us. I am sure their families miss them very much!
Let’s go on another scavenger hunt this week. The American flag tells us we are free! How about you keep track of all of the American flags you see outside? Take pictures of every flag you see all week long. If you don’t have a camera, count the flags and keep track of how many there are.
Let’s all take time to thank God the Father for letting you stay in His family forever. No matter what you do, He will always love and forgive you. We always need to make sure that we rebound before we pray. Next thank God for your freedom and the men and women that made that possible.
If you have never accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, simply tell God the Father you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior. He died on the cross for all of the bad things you think, do and say. He is alive right now and waiting with open arms to welcome you into His family forever.
