Before you begin this Bible study, if you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John

3:16 tells us: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.” Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, then 1 John 1:9 tells us: “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth (Rebound).

Promise-Memory Verse

‘Do not fear, for I am with you.” Isaiah 41:10a

Matthew 14:22-33, John 6:15-21-Period of Time-Hypostatic Union

One day, Jesus needed some alone time with God the Father, so He walked up a mountain to pray. When it started to get dark, His friends the disciples got in their fishing boat and rowed it out into the Sea of Galilee.

When they were about 3 to 4 miles away from shore, the wind got really strong and waves of water started bashing up against the boat. Well, you will never guess what happened!

Despite the nasty weather, Jesus decided it was time to take a stroll across the rough sea. Was He nuts? Of course not! He performed a miracle and walked on top of the water without sinking. The disciples started freaking out when they saw Him coming! In fact, they thought they were seeing a ghost! Right away, Jesus said, “Take courage it is I; do not be afraid.”

The disciple Peter was super excited when he saw Jesus standing on top of the water! He wanted to walk on the water too! Can you imagine him trying to keep his balance as he climbed over the edge of the boat? When Peter stepped into the water, he trusted that Jesus would keep him safe. As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he was able to walk on the water too!

But then, Peter took his eyes off of Jesus for a minute and got scared out of his mind when he saw the waves! He immediately started sinking into the deep dark swirling water. Then he shouted out “Lord save me!” Jesus grabbed Peter and said, “you of little faith, why did you doubt?’  The minute that Jesus got into the boat, the sea was totally calm. Everyone in the boat said, “You are certainly God’s Son.”

Peter and the other disciples learned a valuable lesson that day about trusting God. God is more powerful than a tornado, hurricane, or even a nuclear weapon. He is in charge of the weather. Nothing is impossible for God, including walking on water and stopping a storm. He is always ready to help us.

One hot summer day, Roger decided to have a hot dog cookout at his house. He invited all of his friends from church to come. Everyone brought lots of goodies to go along with the hotdogs. There was cherry pie, macaroni salad, a platter of raw vegetables, deviled eggs and gluten free cupcakes.  After everyone ate, Roger asked one of the kids from church named Julia if she wanted to go fishing with him in his boat and she agreed. Roger rowed the boat out into the middle his the pond. They both casted their fishing poles into the water. Julia caught a fish and Roger caught some grass and leaves.

Then the unthinkable happened. Roger started reeling in his line and there was huge snake on the end of his pole. Julia started screaming when he dangled the slimy snake in the air! She was deathly afraid of snakes!

Roger didn’t seem scared at all because He trusted God to keep them safe. He cut his line and the snake swam away. Then he told a funny joke, and by the time they rowed back to shore, Julia wasn’t afraid anymore. She was laughing like crazy!

All of us are scared at times, just like Peter was while walking on the water with Jesus. When we are afraid, God want us to tell him that we are scared so that we will be in fellowship with God.

Remember, God the Father helped His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to walk on the water and also Peter.

Remember a reason to trust God is that He is more powerful than a hurricane, tornado or a nuclear weapon. He’s in charge of the weather.

Relax, God will take care of everything, so go and enjoy the hotdog party like Roger and Julia did.
