We have now begun Commandment #7, that is designed for the Protection of Marriage =  Exo 20:14, “You shall not commit adultery.”

With this in mind I have chosen a passage that really sums up the seriousness and the importance of understanding why the Lord says, “You shall not commit adultery.”

And that is COL 3:5 which says, Therefore consider the members of your earthly body [eyes, ears, hands, feet], as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.

Now, I have chosen this passage for our subject on adultery and sexual sins because there are five nouns coming up in this verse. They all have to with some different aspect of sexual sins.

The five sins mentioned are mentioned by the words, immorality, impurity, passion, evil desires, greed, which all are said to be some sort of a manifestation of demonic worship or the worship of idolatry. It’s very interesting that they all have to do with the same subject even though it doesn’t appear that way at times in the English language.

Now, first of all, immorality is the accusative singular noun, porneian which is where we get the English word porn from and it refers to fornication or sexual immorality between a man and a woman outside of the marital realm.

Normally fornication refers to sexual activity outside of marriage, whereas adultery usually refers to one or both who are married but having sexual relations with those outside their marriage. And, according to the word of God, there is a destructive force that happens within the body when fornication, promiscuity and adultery are committed, according to 1CO 6:13‑18, and that destructive force is the effect that these sins have upon the body.

That the destructive force is usually manifested by the man becoming impotent while the woman becomes frigid or both can no longer have any true and real response or pleasure from the sex.

That destructive force is in view in HEB 13:4 where the Bible says “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled; for fornicators and adulterers God will judge.”

That destructive force is mentioned in 1CO 6:9-10, Or do you not know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

1CO 6:10, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

This is not talking about salvation but your escrow blessings for time and eternity. Look at GAL 5:19, where we look at not the fruit of the Spirit but the fruit or the works of the flesh; Now the deeds or the works of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, Notice that the first ones mentioned are sins of passion and emotion. Then we have the influence of demonism or the doctrines of demons.

GAL 5:20 goes on to point out the influence of demon doctrines when it say that the deeds or the works of the flesh are said to be idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, Notice all the rest of the sins mentioned are Mental Attitude Sins an Sins of the Tongue. So overt ones like outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, and factions.

GAL 5:21, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not [AGAIN-INHERIT] the kingdom of God.

EPH 5:5, For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

HEB 12:15-16, See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God; that no root of bitterness springing up causes trouble, and by it many be defiled; that there be no immoral or godless person like Esau, who sold his own birthright for a single meal.

REV 22:14-15, Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs [legalists] and the sorcerers [demonism] and the immoral or [sexually perverted] persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

Look back now at 1CO 6:13, Food is for the stomach, and the stomach is for food; but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord; and the Lord is for the body.

The body does not exist for the purpose of fornication, but for the Master’s service, and the Master exists for the body. The body is not intended for sexual immorality, but is intended for the Lord, and the Lord is intended for the body to save, sanctify, and raise it again.

1CO 6:15-20, Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? May it never be! Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a harlot is one body with her? For He says, “The two will become one flesh.” that is in the sexual realm. But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

This says to get rid of immorality and all sexual looseness and to flee from impurity in thought, word, or deed.

Why?

Because any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. And do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received as a Gift from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price purchased with a preciousness of the life of Christ.

1PE 1:18-19,  Knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless,  the blood of Christ.

So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.

Notice again in 1CO 6:18 says Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.

This is one of the only sins a man or a woman can commit against their own body. And remember that anything that attacks the female body also attacks her soul.

Now, I am going to say some things during this series that may awaken some guilt and condemnation within some of you, and I don’t want that to happen! That is not the reason for teaching this. The reason for teaching this is for guidance and direction in a subject that God has created for the purpose of virtue, happiness, stimulation and pleasure...and that is SEX! Remember in DEU 32:4, “The Rock! His work is perfect, Part of that work is the creation of sex.
