Moses – (Red Sea) – Part 3

Fear-Trust

Eternity Past, Age of Gentiles, Age of Israel, Hypostatic Union, Church Age, Tribulation, Millennium, Eternal future

Before you begin this Bible study, If you have never believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior, John 3:16 tells us: “ For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him, shall not perish, but have eternal life.’ Simply have faith that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins and you will have eternal life and be saved. If you have believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior; then 1 John 1:9 tells us; “If you confess your sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Simply privately tell God the Father your sins to be filled with God the Holy Spirit and He will teach you Bible truth. Promise Memory Verse

“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in You.” Psalm 56:3

The Israelites sure did have a lot of interesting things happen to them while they were being rescued!  It’s kind of cool the way God not only demonstrated His power over and over to them, but His warped sense of humor as well.

He used a bull-headed Pharaoh, bloody water, stinky dead fish, croaking frogs, irritating gnats, gross flies, dead livestock, oozing sores, fire and large pieces of hail fell from the sky, yucky locusts, blinding darkness and finally, the first born person died in every family that didn’t have lamb’s blood painted around their door posts.

He could have sent eagles to swoop down and carry the Israelites away on their backs to their new country. God could have sent giant yellow

bearded dragons to hike into Egypt and eat the leaves, and the fruit and even nibble on everyone’s toes if He had wanted to.

After Egypt was completely destroyed and the hard hearted Pharaoh’s first born died, he finally let the Hebrew slaves go!

God guided Moses and the Israelites in a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. He warned Moses ahead of time, that the Pharaoh would come after them, so he trusted God and they all camped out near the Red Sea.

The Pharaoh ended up changing his mind! After gathering hundreds of horses and the chariots that were still left, he and his army and charged after Moses and the Hebrew people!

When the former slaves saw them approaching, they freaked out and they moaned and groaned and even accused Moses of leading them in the wilderness to die.

Our gracious God was inside the pillar of cloud

and He moved behind the crabby people so that the Pharaoh and his soldiers couldn’t attack them. They sure didn’t deserve to be rescued did they?   God told Moses to stretch out his hand and the Red Sea parted right down the middle, it probably looked like a giant aquarium on both sides of the sea. Each Israelite, including Moses traveled on the dry path and escaped.

The Egyptian horses galloped into the path after them. God slowed their chariots down so they couldn’t catch up! Now for the grand finale, God told Moses to stretch out his hand and the sea water came crashing back down and the evil Pharaoh and his entire army drowned! The Israelites and Moses were so happy that they made up songs and sang praises to God for rescuing them.

This did not last long though. Three days later, Moses led them into the wilderness to a place called Marah. Oh no, something was wrong with the water, it tasted bitter! The children of Israel grumbled and complained once again to Moses.

Moses did the right thing and told the Lord what was happening. God showed him a tree. Moses threw it into the water and everyone was able to drink from the water because it became sweet. God had once again, sent another miracle.

How could the Israelites be afraid and whine to Moses after everything God had given them? God opened the Red Sea for them to safely travel and if He could do something big like that, then He could provide food and water to keep them alive even though they didn’t deserve it.

When you are afraid, instead of whining and being crabby like the Israelite’s did, you need to tell God the Father privately inside your mind’s that you are afraid and that you are being a crabby, whiner.

This is called confessing your sins, that way you are in fellowship with God and He will help you to remember a verse like the one at the top of this lesson about fear.

Reason to trust God

God wanted you to learn this story about the Red Sea so that you would remember that if God is powerful enough to open the Red Sea up, He can take care of whatever you are afraid of. An Awesome God!
